LASEK Laser Eye Surgery at Blue Fin Vision®

Freedom from Glasses with LASEK in London, Hertfordshire & Essex

From Only £2,250 per eye

What Is LASEK?

LASEK (Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy) is a surface-based laser procedure that reshapes your cornea without creating a flap – reducing or eliminating dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

At Blue Fin Vision®, we use No-Touch LASEK (TransPRK), where the laser is applied directly to the eye’s surface, with both eyes completed in under 10 minutes.

Like PRK, LASEK is ideal for patients with thinner corneas or active lifestyles where flap-related risks are a concern. The procedure preserves more corneal strength than LASIK while delivering equally impressive long-term results.

Our lead consultant has performed over 55,000 vision correction procedures with complication rates three to five times below UK averages (independently audited through the National Ophthalmology Database).

Is LASEK Right for You?

LASEK is a surface-based procedure similar to PRK. It typically suits patients aged 21-45 with:

  • Thinner corneas unsuitable for flap creation
  • Active lifestyles or occupations with higher risk of eye trauma (e.g., contact sports, military, police)
  • Large pupils
  • Preference for a no-flap procedure

LASEK can correct:

  • Short-sightedness (myopia) up to approximately -8.00 D
  • Long-sightedness (hyperopia) up to approximately +4.00 D
  • Astigmatism up to approximately 6.00 D

Recovery takes longer than LASIK (days rather than hours), but final visual outcomes are equally impressive.

No-Touch LASEK (TransPRK)

Blue Fin Vision® uses No-Touch LASEK, also known as Transepithelial PRK (TransPRK). Unlike traditional LASEK, this technique applies the laser directly to the eye’s surface – no manual handling, no alcohol solution, no epithelial manipulation.

Benefits of No-Touch LASEK:

  • Faster treatment: Both eyes completed in under 10 minutes
  • Reduced risk: No manual handling minimises complications
  • Enhanced precision: Direct laser application ensures accurate corneal reshaping

What to Expect

Before Surgery

Your complimentary consultation includes corneal topography, pachymetry (thickness measurement) and detailed prescription assessment. Your consultant explains the procedure, the longer recovery timeline compared to LASIK, and answers all questions. Formal consent follows UK refractive standards, including a seven-day cooling-off period.

During Surgery

The procedure takes under 10 minutes for both eyes:

  1. Preparation: Anaesthetic drops numb your eyes – you feel no pain
  2. Direct laser application: The excimer laser removes the epithelium and reshapes the cornea in one step
  3. Protection: A soft bandage contact lens is placed to protect the eye while the epithelium regenerates

After Surgery

You’ll rest in a private, en-suite recovery room before going home the same day. We provide:

  • All post-operative drops included
  • A three-course meal for you and your companion
  • A celebratory bottle of champagne
  • Protective bandage contact lens (removed at follow-up)
  • Structured follow-up appointments
  • Direct access to our team for any concerns

The first 24 hours can be uncomfortable as the epithelium regenerates. Most patients notice significant improvement within a week, with vision continuing to stabilise over the following weeks.

Recovery and Results

  • Day 1: Discomfort and light sensitivity are normal – rest and use prescribed drops
  • Days 2-5: Bandage contact lens removed, vision begins to clear
  • Weeks 1-2: Most patients return to normal activities
  • Weeks 3-6: Vision continues to stabilise – many patients achieve 20/20 or better

Recovery is slower than LASIK, but long-term results are equivalent. The absence of a flap means the cornea retains more structural strength.

Patient Experience

“I woke up to already have impeccable vision. It was less than 12 hours later, and I went in for my check up and was reading better than 20/20 on my right eye and at 20/20 on my left eye.

The surgery is somewhat of a miracle. The fact I’ve been afforded perfect sight at the age of 30 having been wearing glasses all day every day for a decade is the stuff of miracles.

Would recommend – 5 stars!!”

LASEK FAQs

What is No-Touch LASEK eye surgery?

No-Touch LASEK is an advanced surface laser procedure that corrects short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. Unlike traditional LASEK, which uses a dilute alcohol solution to loosen the outer corneal layer, No-Touch LASEK removes the surface layer entirely using a laser. This eliminates any manual contact with the eye, enhancing precision and comfort.

No-Touch LASEK and PRK produce very similar outcomes and recovery experiences. Both are surface procedures without a flap, offering excellent corneal stability. The key difference is that No-Touch LASEK uses a laser to remove the epithelium rather than manual techniques. LASIK creates a flap, allowing faster recovery but with flap-related considerations.

No-Touch LASEK avoids flap creation, preserves corneal strength and is suitable for thinner corneas. The entirely laser-based approach means no instruments touch the eye, reducing discomfort and infection risk. It carries lower dry eye risk than LASIK and is ideal for active lifestyles or occupations where eye trauma is possible.

No-Touch LASEK suits patients aged 21 or over with stable prescriptions who have thinner corneas, participate in contact sports, work in military or emergency services, or prefer flapless surgery. A comprehensive assessment confirms your suitability.

No-Touch LASEK is painless during the procedure. The first 2–3 days can be uncomfortable as the surface heals, with stinging, light sensitivity and watering. Prescribed pain relief and lubricating drops manage these symptoms effectively, and discomfort typically improves significantly by day 4–5.

Most patients return to work within 5–7 days and can drive after 2–3 weeks. Full visual stabilisation takes 3–6 months. The initial recovery is slower than LASIK, but long-term outcomes are equivalent.

No-Touch LASEK delivers excellent results equivalent to LASIK and PRK, with over 95% of patients achieving 20/20 vision or better. Results are permanent with excellent long-term stability.

Temporary effects include discomfort during healing, dry eyes and fluctuating vision. No-Touch LASEK avoids all flap-related complications. Serious risks such as infection or corneal haze are rare with modern techniques.

No-Touch LASEK permanently reshapes the cornea. Results are stable long-term, with excellent biomechanical preservation. Natural age-related changes such as presbyopia will still occur over time.

Blue Fin Vision® offers LASIK, SMILE, implantable contact lenses and refractive lens exchange as alternatives. Your consultant recommends the most appropriate treatment for your needs.
