Abbey Wood Hospital
Blue Fin Vision® South East London Eye Clinic is based at Abbey Wood Hospital, an independent private hospital in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The hospital is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England, for surgical procedures, diagnostic and screening procedures, and the treatment of disease, disorder or injury. This location brings consultant-led ophthalmology and vision correction surgery to patients across Abbey Wood, Greenwich, Woolwich, Plumstead, Thamesmead, Eltham, Bexleyheath, and the surrounding areas, without the need to travel into central London.
At Abbey Wood, you will be treated by the same GMC-registered consultant ophthalmologist from initial assessment through to surgery and aftercare. The clinic uses the same advanced ZEISS diagnostic and surgical technology found at our Harley Street and Weymouth Street locations, ensuring consistent clinical precision across the network.
We accept all major insurance providers at Abbey Wood Hospital, making it straightforward to access private consultant-led eye care through your existing policy.
Advanced Eye Care, Treatment & Surgery in South East London
Abbey Wood Hospital offers the full range of Blue Fin Vision® lens and surgical procedures, including cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange, implantable contact lenses, glaucoma care, vitreoretinal surgery, and oculoplastic procedures. Pre and post-operative consultations for laser vision correction are also available here, with laser procedures carried out at our central London centres.
Cataract and lens replacement surgery is performed using 4-Minute Phaco™, the precision-based, low-trauma technique developed by Mr Mfazo Hove across more than 57,000 procedures. Because the technique puts less energy and less stress into the eye, most patients are comfortable being discharged the same day. Combined with on-site parking and a quiet setting away from central London, that makes for a straightforward day, both for you and for whoever brings you. Audited outcomes are published on Mr Hove’s profile, and the 4-Minute Phaco™ Series explains the technique in detail.
The clinic sits in a converted manor house set in around two acres of grounds on Bostall Hill, with Abbey Wood station roughly a ten-minute walk away. From there, the Elizabeth line reaches central London in about eighteen minutes, which makes this one of the better-connected locations in the Blue Fin Vision® network for patients travelling from Kent and the south east. Book a consultation to have your eyes assessed by an experienced consultant ophthalmologist in a relaxed, well-equipped clinical setting.

Public Transport:
Abbey Wood station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the hospital and is the eastern terminus of the Elizabeth line, reaching central London in around 18 minutes. Southeastern and Thameslink services also call there, with routes towards London Cannon Street via Greenwich and Lewisham, and eastbound services towards Dartford, Bexleyheath and Rainham. The station is managed by Transport for London and offers step-free access between street level and all platforms. Several bus routes serve Abbey Wood and Bostall Hill, and the station forecourt sits on Wilton Road, a short walk from the local shops.
By Car:
The clinic sits at the top of Knee Hill on Bostall Hill, which forms part of the A206, with two separate road access points onto the site.
From central London or from the east on the A2 or M2, leave the A2 at the A221 Danson Road junction signposted Bexleyheath, follow signs through Bexleyheath to the A207 junction at Crook Log, then join Brampton Road and continue to the traffic lights at Bostall Hill on the A206. Turn onto Bostall Hill and the clinic is a short distance along the ridge.
From the M25, leave at Junction 2 and join the A2 towards London, then follow the route above. Alternatively, from the M25 at Junction 1a, take the A206 towards Erith and Thamesmead, where the road becomes the A2016. Leave the A2016 onto the A2041 Harrow Manorway signed for Abbey Wood and Thamesmead, continue over Abbey Wood station, and at the next roundabout take the first exit into Knee Hill for the climb up to Bostall Hill.
From Woolwich, Plumstead and Greenwich, follow the A206 eastbound, which runs directly onto Bostall Hill.
Please note that Abbey Wood falls within the London Low Emission Zone and Ultra Low Emission Zone, so we recommend checking your vehicle’s compliance on the Transport for London website before travelling.
Parking:
On-site car parking is available for patients and visitors.
Local Landmarks:
The clinic occupies a converted manor house in around two acres of grounds, set on the wooded Bostall Hill ridge. The ruins of Lesnes Abbey, a scheduled ancient monument founded in 1178, and the adjoining Lesnes Abbey Woods Local Nature Reserve lie a short distance away, around ten minutes on foot from Abbey Wood station. Immediately around the clinic are Bostall Woods and Bostall Heath, 159 hectares of ancient woodland, heathland and acid grassland, with the woods to the south of the A206 and the heath to the north. Both form part of the South East London Green Chain, a signposted 40-mile network of footpaths linking the area’s open spaces.
We recommend checking current travel information, public transport schedules, and parking availability before your visit, as these details are subject to change. For the most up-to-date journey planning, please contact the clinic directly.
