How Much Does Chalazion Removal Cost?
Chalazion removal at Blue Fin Vision® costs £825 at Harley Street or £1,485 at our partner hospitals, including your consultation.
Chalazion removal treats persistent eyelid cysts through a short procedure under local anaesthetic. Your consultant assesses the lump, explains whether treatment is needed and performs the procedure personally. Blue Fin Vision® provides treatment for patients aged 16 and over across London, Hertfordshire and Essex.

What’s Included in Your Chalazion Removal Cost
Your £325 consultation includes:
- Assessment by a consultant ophthalmic surgeon
- Examination of the eyelid and eye to confirm the diagnosis
- A clear discussion of your options, including whether waiting is reasonable
Your £500 treatment fee includes:
- Incision and curettage, a small incision followed by removal of the cyst’s contents, under local anaesthetic
- Treatment performed personally by your consultant
- Same-day discharge with written aftercare instructions
- A second procedure on the same chalazion if the first has not cleared it, under the Blue Fin Vision® Advantage
No routine follow-up appointment is included or needed for most patients. If you have concerns during recovery, contact our team. We will advise you and arrange a review if clinically needed.
What If the First Procedure Does Not Clear the Chalazion?
Up to one in ten chalazia need a second procedure because the first has not fully cleared the lump.
- Self-funding patients: The second procedure is carried out at no additional charge under the Blue Fin Vision® Advantage, at any of our locations. There is no treatment, hospital or return-to-theatre fee. The limit is two procedures from one fee.
- Insured patients: The second procedure is claimed through your insurer, subject to your policy and pre-authorisation.
- A new chalazion in a different place: This is a new episode of care and is charged in the usual way.
Why Consider Chalazion Removal?
A persistent eyelid lump can affect your appearance, make the lid feel heavy or press on the eye and blur vision. When warm compresses have not helped, removal offers a way to treat the lump without continuing to wait for it to settle.
Your consultant will explain whether treatment is appropriate or whether further home care is worth trying. Where clinically suitable, consultation and removal can take place at the same visit.
Treatment Options Explained
During your consultation, your consultant examines the chalazion and explains the options:
- Warm compresses and lid hygiene: The first step for new or small chalazia, particularly when the lump is still improving.
- Incision and curettage: Removal through a small incision, usually on the inner surface of the eyelid, under local anaesthetic. This is suitable for persistent chalazia that have not settled.
If no procedure is needed, you pay only the £325 consultation fee.
Insurance & Finance
Many private medical insurers cover chalazion removal when it is medically indicated, for example when a lump has not settled with conservative treatment or is affecting vision. Cover depends on your policy. Please contact your insurer before your appointment and obtain a pre-authorisation number. Patient finance is available at all our locations. Our team will explain the options when you book.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the consultation charged separately?
The consultation costs £325 and is included in the £825 total at Harley Street or £1,485 at partner hospitals. If no treatment is needed, or you decide not to proceed, you pay the consultation fee only.
Can I have chalazion treatment on the same day as my consultation?
Often, yes. If the diagnosis is clear and treatment is appropriate, your consultant can usually remove the chalazion at the same visit.
Does it cost more to treat multiple chalazia?
Each additional chalazion treated at the same visit costs £200.
Is follow-up included?
No routine follow-up appointment is included, as most patients do not need one. If you have concerns during recovery, our team will advise you and arrange a review if clinically needed.
Why do partner hospitals cost more?
Partner hospitals charge a £660 facility fee for their treatment room, nursing team and equipment. Harley Street is our own clinic, so no hospital fee applies. The consultant and technique are the same at each location.
Can I have chalazion removal on the NHS?
Sometimes, but NHS funding criteria are narrow. Examples in NHS England’s Evidence-Based Interventions guidance include:
- A chalazion present for more than six months despite at least four weeks of conservative treatment
- A chalazion that significantly interferes with vision
- A chalazion causing recurrent infection or an abscess that needs draining¹
The full criteria are set out in the guidance. Integrated Care Boards apply them locally, so access and waiting times vary. A lump suspected of being something other than a chalazion follows a separate, urgent pathway.
These are funding rules, not clinical advice. In private practice, your consultant may recommend treatment sooner when a chalazion is unlikely to settle.
