Unstable Refraction: Why We Often Say “Not Yet”

1 min read

Laser surgery assumes refractive stability.

If your prescription shifts more than 0.50 dioptres within a year, long-term accuracy becomes less predictable. ¹

Myopia progression can continue into the early twenties in some individuals. ² Performing laser surgery during active change increases the likelihood of regression.

Enhancements are possible, but each procedure removes additional corneal tissue. Structural reserve should not be consumed prematurely.

Warning signs of instability:

  • Recent increase in myopia or astigmatism
  • Changing spectacle prescriptions within 12 months
  • Axial elongation on biometry
  • Young age with progressive trend

A period of documented stability provides confidence that the correction will last.

At Blue Fin Vision®, we verify serial prescriptions and map progression patterns carefully.

Laser surgery is not urgent. It is elective.

Waiting for stability protects corneal tissue and reduces future interventions.

“Not yet” preserves options.
