The Specialist Register confirms completion of a recognised postgraduate training programme in ophthalmology, including the full FRCS(Ophth) examination pathway, and confirms eligibility to practise as a consultant in the United Kingdom. ² It is maintained by the General Medical Council and is publicly searchable.
Entry-level laser eye surgery in the UK can be performed by practitioners who are not on the Specialist Register. ¹ Blue Fin Vision® does not operate in that space. The Consultant Standards that underpin this practice require that every surgical procedure is delivered by a fully credentialled specialist, not a practitioner working within delegated protocols.
