Expert Comment on a Rare Genetic Condition
Violet was born with no irises, raised eye pressure and jittery eye movement, and celebrated her first birthday watching fireworks her doctors thought she would never see. Explaining the wider picture, Mr Hove told Metro that FOXC1 variants can cause photophobia, or light sensitivity, along with reduced vision and glare.
He added that with regular monitoring, modern glaucoma treatments and appropriate visual rehabilitation, many people retain useful vision throughout their lives.
