Pinguecula surgery removes a small yellowish bump on the white of the eye that is causing irritation or cosmetic concern. A pinguecula is a benign degeneration of the conjunctiva.
How pinguecula surgery works
The raised tissue is carefully excised from the surface of the eye. In some cases a conjunctival graft is placed to encourage smooth healing and reduce recurrence.
- Usually done under local anaesthetic as a day-case
- Lubricating and anti-inflammatory drops are used afterwards
- Redness gradually fades as the surface heals
