What if I miss a dose of eye drops?

< 1 min read

Missing an occasional dose of eye drops is common and rarely an emergency, but good adherence supports smooth recovery.

What to do if you forget

If you remember within a short time, apply the drop as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one instead of doubling.

  • Do not apply extra drops close together unless instructed
  • Restart the normal schedule at the next planned time
  • Note any missed doses to discuss at your follow-up
  • Use alarms or charts to help you keep on track

When missed drops matter more

After complex surgery or with steroid or antibiotic drops, consistent dosing is particularly important. If several doses are missed, contact your clinic for advice.

  • Tell your team if you struggle with frequent dosing schedules
  • Ask whether simplifying the regimen is possible
  • Never stop steroid drops suddenly without guidance
  • Seek urgent review if pain or redness increases after missed doses
