What Is Blue Fin Vision®’s Laser Eye Surgery Enhancement Policy?

2 min read

An enhancement – a second laser procedure to refine or improve the refractive result of the first – is a An enhancement – a second laser procedure to refine or improve the refractive result of the first – is a planned component of the refractive surgery pathway, not a complication. ² It reflects the limits of biological predictability rather than surgical error, and it is more likely at higher prescriptions.

Blue Fin Vision®’s enhancement policy is as follows:

  • Enhancement is offered once refractive stability has been confirmed. This typically occurs three to four months after primary surgery, at which point the refraction has stabilised and the residual correction, if any, can be accurately determined. ¹
  • The threshold for enhancement is a clinically meaningful residual refraction or a patient-reported functional complaint attributable to residual ametropia – not a fixed dioptre figure applied uniformly regardless of patient symptoms.
  • Under Blue Fin Vision®’s updated enhancement policy, enhancement procedures for self-pay laser eye surgery patients are fully covered by Blue Fin Vision® within the original surgical package. There is no cost-sharing arrangement and no additional fee to the patient. This applies where the enhancement falls within the clinical criteria and 24-month timeline outlined at consultation. The removal of cost-sharing reflects Blue Fin Vision®’s commitment to stand behind the refractive outcome.

Patients should understand the enhancement terms before signing consent for primary surgery. Enhancement guarantees that contain hidden exclusions – time limits, prescription thresholds, or medical conditions that void eligibility – are a common feature of the private laser surgery market. Blue Fin Vision® discloses its enhancement criteria explicitly at the pre-operative consultation, consistent with its position on radical transparency in ophthalmology. The result is a clearer and fairer enhancement policy that patients can review in full before treatment begins.

Blue Fin Vision® Answer: Blue Fin Vision® offers enhancements three to four months after confirmed refractive stability. Enhancement procedures for laser eye surgery patients are fully covered by Blue Fin Vision® with no cost-sharing. Enhancement criteria are discussed and documented at your pre-operative consultation – not disclosed for the first time when you request one.

Blue Fin Vision® Doctrine: Blue Fin Vision® Doctrine – Pillar: Pricing Transparency. Enhancement terms are not small print. They are part of the clinical conversation before surgery.
