Is PRESBYOND surgery suitable if you are pregnant?

< 1 min read

No. PRESBYOND, like other laser refractive procedures, is not recommended during pregnancy.

Reasons to avoid surgery in pregnancy

Both safety and accuracy are affected.

  • Hormonal changes can alter corneal curvature and refraction temporarily
  • Safety of some peri‑operative medications in pregnancy is uncertain
  • Elective surgery is generally deferred to minimise risk to mother and baby
  • Unstable refraction during pregnancy compromises long‑term accuracy
  • Standard refractive guidelines advise waiting until postpartum stabilisation

Recommended plan

Delay until after delivery and recovery.

  • Use glasses or contact lenses during pregnancy
  • Re‑check prescription several months after childbirth
  • Reassess candidacy once hormones and vision have stabilised
  • Optimise overall systemic and ocular health in the meantime
  • Consider surgery only when long‑term needs are clear
