Is PresbyMAX surgery suitable if prescription is still changing?

< 1 min read

PresbyMAX is generally not suitable if your prescription is still changing.

Why change is a problem

Laser outcomes would soon be outdated.

  • Ongoing refractive shift can quickly reintroduce dependence on glasses
  • May mask undiagnosed corneal disease such as keratoconus
  • Raises likelihood of needing further surgery or correction
  • Complicates planning for both distance and near targets
  • Contradicts standard refractive safety recommendations

Preferred approach

Stabilisation comes first.

  • Regular eye tests to confirm whether change is slowing or stopping
  • Corneal topography to exclude ectasia or other pathology
  • Temporary management with spectacles or contact lenses
  • Re‑evaluation for PresbyMAX once stability is documented
  • Discussion of alternative options if progression continues
