Most light housework is safe soon after endoscopic DCR surgery, but heavier tasks should wait to prevent strain and bleeding.
Light home activities
Gentle tasks help you stay independent without overloading the healing nose and tear passage. Pace yourself and rest when tired.
- Cooking, light tidying, and simple washing up are usually fine
- Avoid strong bending or lifting in the early days
- Keep cleaning products away from the eye and nose
- Use tissues gently, dabbing rather than wiping tears or nasal discharge
- Stop if you feel throbbing, pressure, or increased bleeding
Heavier cleaning and DIY jobs
Tasks involving dust, heavy lifting, or significant effort can put pressure on sensitive areas.
- Delay vacuuming, deep cleaning, and heavy gardening for at least one to two weeks
- Wear protective glasses or masks in dusty environments
- Ask family or friends for help with strenuous chores initially
- Avoid ladders until balance and vision feel steady
- Discuss any concerns about specific tasks at your check-up
