Is PresbyMAX surgery painful?

< 1 min read

PresbyMAX is a laser profile applied using LASIK or surface techniques. Comfort therefore depends more on the underlying procedure than the PresbyMAX design itself.

During surgery

Numbing drops prevent sharp pain whether PresbyMAX is delivered with LASIK, PRK, or LASEK. You may notice pressure and lights but not actual burning.

  • LASIK-based PresbyMAX usually feels similar to standard LASIK
  • Surface-based PresbyMAX has a short, painless laser step
  • Any discomfort is discussed and treated with extra anaesthetic
  • The procedure time is brief for each eye

Recovery experience

Post-operative pain mirrors the chosen technique. LASIK-based PresbyMAX is usually mildly uncomfortable, while PRK or LASEK versions can be sorer for a few days.

  • Pain relief tablets and drops are provided as needed
  • Dryness and light sensitivity are common but improve with time
  • Severe or persistent pain should be reviewed promptly
  • Visual adaptation, not pain, is usually the bigger challenge
