Can I exercise ICL surgery?

< 1 min read

Exercise after ICL surgery should be reintroduced gradually to protect the eye and maintain stable pressure. Light activities restart quickly, while strenuous or contact sports wait longer.

Light Activity

Gentle movement is usually encouraged early.

  • Walking and light stretching are typically fine within a day or two, if you feel well.
  • Avoid heavy straining and bending so your head is below your waist in the first days.
  • Wear sunglasses outdoors to reduce glare and wind.
  • Do not rub your eyes during or after exercise; use lubricating drops if they feel gritty.

Strenuous and Contact Exercise

Higher‑intensity activity needs your surgeon’s guidance.

  • Running, gym workouts, and non‑contact sports are often resumed after about a week, depending on your progress.
  • Contact sports and swimming are usually delayed longer and should involve protective eyewear.
  • Stop activity and seek advice if you experience pain, redness, or a sudden change in vision.
  • Follow any personalised restrictions given at follow‑up visits to protect long‑term eye health.
