Can I drive after LASEK?

< 1 min read

Driving after LASEK should only resume once your vision meets legal standards and you feel confident and comfortable. This usually takes longer than after LASIK.

Initial Period

Driving is not safe in the first few days.

  • Arrange transport home after surgery and for early follow‑up visits.
  • Vision is typically too blurred for safe driving until at least the bandage lens is removed and the surface has healed.
  • Your first post‑operative checks will include a vision assessment.
  • Do not drive until your clinician specifically confirms it is safe.

Building Confidence

Even once legal vision is reached, adaptation takes time.

  • Start with short daytime journeys on familiar routes.
  • Delay night driving until glare, halos, and fluctuation have improved.
  • Use lubricating drops before longer trips to reduce dryness.
  • Stop and seek advice if you experience sudden blur, discomfort, or double vision while driving.
