Can I wash my hair after LASIK?

< 1 min read

Hair washing after LASIK is allowed once care is taken to keep soap, shampoo and water out of the eyes. The aim is to protect the healing corneal flap.

Practical tips

For the first few days, patients are usually advised to tilt the head back in the shower and keep eyes gently closed. Harsh rubbing with towels, getting products into the eyes and exposing them to unclean water such as swimming pools should be avoided during the early recovery period.

  • Follow the specific time frames in the post-operative instructions
  • Use a clean towel and pat around, rather than across, the eyelids
  • Avoid eye makeup and facial scrubs until cleared to restart
  • Seek advice if the eye is accidentally hit or heavily rubbed while washing
