Is PRESBYOND surgery suitable if laser eye surgery is not an option?

< 1 min read

PRESBYOND is itself a laser eye surgery technique, so if corneal laser is not an option for safety reasons, PRESBYOND will usually not be appropriate either.

Common reasons laser may not be an option

These typically exclude PRESBYOND as well.

  • Thin, irregular, or ectatic corneas
  • Unstable prescription or evolving keratoconus
  • Significant dry eye or ocular surface disease
  • Early cataract or major retinal pathology limiting potential acuity
  • Systemic conditions making elective laser unsafe

Alternative approaches for presbyopia

Other solutions can still help.

  • Multifocal or monovision contact lenses
  • ICL or lens‑replacement procedures where indicated
  • Varifocal spectacles or occupational reading lenses
  • Non‑surgical low‑vision strategies where retinal disease dominates
  • Personalised plan agreed with a refractive and medical eye specialist
