Can I Go to Moorfields for a Second Opinion Instead?

2 min read

Yes.

They are your eyes.

Seeking a second opinion after posterior capsule rupture is entirely reasonable.

If you wish to do so, we recommend taking:

  • Your pre-operative clinical notes (sent before surgery)
  • The written Duty of Candour letter
  • A copy of your surgical video if desired

Modern cataract surgery is recorded in high resolution. Approximately 1 GB of storage is required per 5 minutes of footage.

Professional guidance from the General Medical Council supports openness when complications occur ¹. Independent review can reassure you that appropriate steps were taken, even when outcomes are not as expected ².

Complications do not automatically mean error or negligence. PCR is a recognised risk of cataract surgery, even in expert hands ³.

Second opinions often provide clarity, alignment, and reassurance.

Your right to independent review is supported and respected.
