Is PRESBYOND surgery suitable if you have post-LASIK corneas?

< 1 min read

PRESBYOND‑style enhancements on post‑LASIK corneas are possible in selected patients, but require particularly cautious assessment.

When it may be considered

Safety and tissue reserve must be adequate.

  • Stable post‑LASIK refraction with clear presbyopic symptoms
  • Adequate residual stromal thickness and regular topography
  • No signs of ectasia or flap complications
  • Clear lenses and good retinal health
  • Desire to avoid lens replacement at this stage

Special challenges

Re‑treatment carries extra risk.

  • Less residual tissue available for further ablation
  • Higher vulnerability to dry eye and night‑vision symptoms
  • Altered corneal biomechanics compared with virgin corneas
  • Need for highly experienced refractive surgeons and meticulous planning
  • In some cases, lens‑based options are safer than additional corneal laser
