PresbyMAX is not recommended when corneas are unsafe for laser, when lens or retinal disease dominates vision, or when expectations and health make risk-benefit unfavourable.
Ocular reasons to avoid PresbyMAX
These conditions typically exclude corneal presbyopic laser.
- Thin, irregular, or ectatic corneas (for example keratoconus)
- Unstable prescription or suspicious topography
- Early or established cataracts and significant macular disease
- Advanced glaucoma or poorly controlled ocular hypertension
- Severe dry eye or ocular surface disease
General and preference‑based reasons
Context and goals matter too.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or poorly controlled systemic illness
- Very risk‑averse personality or demand for “perfect” vision
- Comfortable, trouble‑free spectacle or contact‑lens wear
- Inability to attend follow‑up or manage post‑operative care
- Better suitability for lens replacement or ICL based on age and prescription
