Housework after pterygium removal surgery is usually possible in stages, starting with light tasks and adding heavier chores as the eye becomes more comfortable.
Light tasks early on
Once the initial soreness eases, many people manage simple domestic jobs without difficulty. The priority is avoiding irritants, strain, and accidental knocks.
- Gentle activities such as making drinks, simple cooking, and light tidying are often fine after a few days.
- Keep cleaning sprays, steam, and strong fumes away from your face.
- Use good kitchen ventilation or open windows when cooking.
- Wear glasses or sunglasses if bright lights cause discomfort.
- Rest whenever the eye feels unusually sore, watery, or tired.
Heavier and dusty chores
More strenuous work should wait until your surgeon confirms that the graft and surface are stable. Dust and vigorous effort can aggravate healing tissue.
- Delay vacuuming, deep scrubbing, gardening, and DIY for at least a week or as advised.
- When you restart, use protective eyewear and possibly a mask for dusty areas.
- Avoid heavy lifting or straining that makes you hold your breath.
- Continue lubricating drops on busy days to prevent dryness and irritation.
- Seek review if housework triggers persistent redness, pain, or blurred vision.
