Most light housework is safe soon after xanthelasma removal surgery, but heavier or dusty chores should wait while the eyelids heal.
Light home activities
Gentle tasks help you stay active without overloading the healing area. Move slowly and rest if you feel tired.
- Cooking, light tidying, and simple washing up are usually acceptable
- Avoid steam and strong fumes that irritate the eyes
- Use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry during chores
- Stop if you notice throbbing, pulling, or increasing soreness
- Ask for help with tasks that feel too demanding
Heavier cleaning and DIY tasks
Jobs involving bending, vigorous scrubbing, or dust can put pressure on the eyelids and delay healing.
- Delay vacuuming, deep cleaning, heavy gardening, and DIY for several days or as advised
- Wear protective glasses and possibly a mask in dusty or dirty environments
- Avoid ladders until balance and vision feel steady
- Discuss particular home duties with your team at follow-up
- Seek advice if any task triggers sudden swelling or visual change
