Careful showering is usually allowed a day or two after upper blepharoplasty. Protecting the incision lines from direct water and rubbing helps them heal neatly.
Showering in the first week
The upper lids are delicate and often stitched along the crease. Gentle methods avoid disturbing the repair.
- Turn your back to the shower and keep spray off your face.
- Clean your face with a flannel, avoiding the incision line.
- Do not rub or pick at scabs or stitches.
- Pat around the eyes dry with a soft towel rather than wiping.
- Follow any instructions about keeping tapes or dressings dry.
When you can wash normally
As wounds seal and stitches are removed, daily washing becomes easier. Your surgeon will confirm when full face washing is safe.
- Gentle cleansing with mild soap is usually allowed after about a week.
- Avoid very hot, steamy showers that may increase swelling.
- Reapply ointment or drops after washing as directed.
- Seek review if redness, discharge, or wound gaping appears.
- Good hygiene supports smooth scars and comfortable lids.
