You can usually shower the day after YAG iridotomy. Taking care to keep soap and shampoo out of your eyes helps avoid irritation while the eye settles.
Showering in the first days
The eye may be slightly sensitive after the laser. Gentle habits protect comfort and reduce infection risk.
- Turn your face away from the main shower stream.
- Keep your eyes closed when washing hair and rinsing.
- If soap enters the eye, rinse gently with clean water without rubbing.
- Pat around the eye with a soft towel rather than wiping.
- Use lubricating drops afterwards if the eye feels dry or gritty.
Returning to normal washing routines
Most restrictions ease after a few days as soreness improves. Always follow any specific instructions given by your clinic.
- Normal shower routines are usually fine once you feel comfortable.
- Avoid very hot, steamy environments if they trigger throbbing or headache.
- Continue prescribed drops on schedule after showering.
- Seek review if you notice redness, discharge, or a drop in vision.
- Good hygiene and drop use support long-term eye health.
