Light housework is usually safe within a few days of MIGS. Heavier chores should wait until your surgeon confirms that the eye is healing well.
Starting with light tasks
Simple activities are unlikely to disturb the tiny drainage channels created during surgery. Short sessions with rests are best in the first week.
- Tasks like preparing meals, light tidying, and gentle washing up are acceptable.
- Use good lighting to avoid squinting and straining.
- Keep cleaning sprays and strong fumes away from your face.
- Ask for help with tasks that feel tiring or uncomfortable.
- Use prescribed drops on schedule, even on busy days.
Heavier chores and precautions
More strenuous housework can increase pressure or risk accidental bumps. Waiting a little longer helps protect the surgical area.
- Delay deep cleaning, hoovering, moving furniture, and gardening until cleared.
- Wear protective glasses in dusty or cluttered spaces.
- Avoid lifting heavy objects, especially in the first couple of weeks.
- Stop immediately if you experience pain, redness, or sudden blur.
- Plan chores around follow-up visits so important checks are not missed.
