Does entropion surgery hurt?

< 1 min read

Entropion surgery is generally well tolerated, with local anaesthetic preventing pain during the operation. Many patients feel less discomfort afterwards than they did from lashes rubbing the eye beforehand.

During surgery

Numbing injections cause brief stinging, then the eyelid and surrounding area become numb. You may sense tugging but not cutting.

  • Sedation can be used to make you more relaxed
  • Pain is monitored and extra anaesthetic given if needed
  • Stitches help rotate the lid margin back into a normal position
  • The procedure is usually quick and done as a day case

Recovery sensations

After surgery, lids may feel sore, tight, and slightly gritty. These symptoms typically improve each day.

  • Cold packs and standard painkillers keep discomfort manageable
  • Severe pain or increasing redness is unusual and should be checked
  • Most patients soon notice greater comfort with lashes no longer scratching
  • Regular follow-up ensures healing and lid position remain satisfactory
