You can usually wash your hair soon after laser eye surgery, but you must prevent shampoo and water from getting into your eyes. Careful technique keeps the surface comfortable while it heals.
Washing safely in the first week
The main risk is irritation or infection from products and rubbing. Adjust your routine to protect your eyes while still feeling clean.
- Tilt your head back and ask for help if possible when washing
- Use a gentle, non-stinging shampoo and rinse slowly
- Keep your eyes closed firmly throughout the wash and rinse
- Blot water away from your forehead rather than wiping towards your eyes
Relaxing your routine later on
As healing progresses, you can return to your usual hair care. Continue to avoid rough handling around your eyes.
- Check with your surgeon before using hair dye or salon treatments
- Dry your hair with a towel or dryer set away from your eyes
- Use lubricating drops if hair products or heat make your eyes feel dry
- Seek review if you notice redness, soreness, or blurred vision afterwards
