YAG vitreolysis recovery

< 1 min read

YAG vitreolysis aims to break up troublesome floaters in the vitreous gel. Recovery is usually quick but vision can feel strange for a short time.

Immediately after treatment

The eye may feel slightly dazzled from the laser light. Focus can be blurred for an hour or two especially if dilating drops were used.

Some patients notice more floaters at first as treated clumps move. These usually become less noticeable with time.

First days and weeks

Most people can resume light activities the same day. A small number need anti inflammatory drops.

  • Temporary increase in floaters or shadows
  • Mild eye ache or headache
  • Light sensitivity especially in bright sunshine
  • Follow up visit to assess floater reduction and retina

Warning symptoms

Very rarely serious complications like retinal tear can occur. Knowing the signs supports early treatment.

  • Sudden burst of many new floaters
  • Flashes of light especially in the side vision
  • Dark curtain or missing area in the visual field
  • Persistent strong pain or redness
