Swimming after PRESBYOND should be postponed until your corneal surface has healed and infection risk is lower. Water exposure too soon may irritate the eyes or introduce microbes.
Pools and Hot Tubs
Chlorine and warm water can be particularly irritating.
- Most surgeons recommend avoiding pools and hot tubs for at least 2-4 weeks.
- When you return, wear snug, watertight goggles to limit contact with treated eyes.
- Rinse your face gently afterwards and use lubricating drops if soreness develops.
- Do not rub your eyes after swimming, even if they feel itchy.
Open Water and Water Sports
Lakes, rivers, and the sea require extra caution.
- Open water is more likely to harbour bacteria and debris, so restrictions may be longer than for pools.
- Discuss any planned diving, surfing, or contact water sports at follow‑up for tailored guidance.
- Use eye protection whenever possible during early sessions back in the water.
- Seek urgent assessment if you experience pain, redness, discharge, or reduced vision after swimming.
