Computer use after PRK

< 1 min read

Computer work after PRK is possible once initial discomfort settles, but screens can feel more demanding while vision is fluctuating. Careful pacing and lubrication reduce strain.

Timing and Early Use

The first few days are usually spent mostly away from screens.

  • Intense device use is often impractical during the immediate post‑operative period due to soreness and blurred vision.
  • Short, necessary sessions can be attempted after several days, depending on comfort.
  • Increase screen time gradually rather than returning to full‑day use at once.
  • Listen to your eyes and rest if they become painful or excessively light‑sensitive.

Comfort Strategies

Simple adjustments protect the healing surface.

  • Use preservative‑free lubricating drops frequently, particularly before and during computer work.
  • Follow the 20‑20‑20 rule and ensure good ambient lighting to minimise glare.
  • Position screens slightly below eye level so the lids cover more of the cornea.
  • Discuss ongoing difficulties at follow‑up visits, as temporary prescription adjustments or extra dry‑eye treatment may help.
