Can I do housework after LASIK?

< 1 min read

Most light housework is safe quite soon after LASIK, but tasks that expose your eyes to dust, chemicals, or heavy lifting should be delayed briefly. Protecting the flap and avoiding accidental rubbing are the main aims.

Light Tasks

Simple activities can usually resume within a day or two.

  • Cooking, gentle tidying, and light washing up are generally acceptable if you avoid steam and splashes to the eyes.
  • Open windows or use extraction fans to reduce fumes from cleaning products.
  • Use lubricating drops regularly if your eyes feel dry during close work.
  • Take short breaks if you feel visually tired.

Heavier Housework

More strenuous tasks should wait a little longer.

  • Leave vacuuming, deep cleaning, and gardening for several days to a week, depending on your surgeon’s guidance.
  • Wear protective glasses when working in dusty or dirty areas.
  • Avoid lifting very heavy objects in the first week to reduce pressure and strain.
  • Stop and rest if you experience discomfort, and mention any issues at follow‑up visits.
