Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery to remove or reposition excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. It can improve both vision and appearance when heavy lids or bags are a concern.
How blepharoplasty works
Through carefully placed incisions in the natural eyelid creases or just below the eyelashes, extra skin, muscle, and fat are adjusted or removed. The aim is to create a smoother contour while maintaining eyelid function.
- Can relieve visual obstruction from overhanging upper lids
- Often performed as a day-case under local anaesthetic with sedation
- Bruising and swelling usually settle over a couple of weeks
