Upper blepharoplasty surgery is generally well tolerated with local anaesthetic and sometimes sedation. You should not feel sharp pain during the procedure.
During upper eyelid surgery
After numbing injections, the area feels tight and heavy but not painful. You may sense movement and gentle tugging.
- Brief stinging occurs only while anaesthetic is injected
- Surgeons continually check for any discomfort
- Additional anaesthetic can be given if needed
- Sedation may help ease anxiety and awareness
Post-operative pain and care
After surgery, lids often feel bruised and sore rather than intensely painful. Simple measures keep discomfort under control.
- Cold compresses for the first 48 hours reduce swelling and ache
- Paracetamol or similar tablets usually manage pain adequately
- Severe pain or sudden vision changes require urgent review
- Most people return to light activities within several days
