Selective laser trabeculoplasty SLT is generally well tolerated and only mildly uncomfortable for most people. Numbing drops are used so you should not feel sharp pain.
What it feels like
You sit at a laser machine similar to a normal eye examination. A small contact lens is placed on the eye.
- Many people describe brief tingling or warmth during laser pulses
- Some feel a light tapping or pricking sensation
- The procedure usually takes only a few minutes per eye
- Anxiety often settles once the first few pulses are experienced
After the procedure
Mild ache or headache may occur for a short time. These symptoms are usually manageable and temporary.
- Anti-inflammatory drops may be given for a few days
- Occasional pressure spikes are checked and treated promptly
- Most people resume normal activities the same or next day
- Seek urgent help if you notice severe pain, redness, or vision loss
