LASEK surgery is similar to PRK in terms of comfort. The procedure itself is painless with anaesthetic drops, but recovery can involve several days of soreness and light sensitivity.
On the day of surgery
Alcohol is used to loosen the surface cells, which are moved aside before laser treatment. Numbing drops prevent sharp pain.
- You may feel pressure or cool fluid but not cutting
- The laser step is quick and painless
- A bandage contact lens is placed to protect the surface
- Any pain during the procedure is addressed immediately
After LASEK
Once anaesthetic wears off, burning, watering, and gritty sensations are common. Vision is blurred while the surface heals.
- Pain medicines and frequent lubricants ease discomfort
- Dark glasses and resting with eyes closed can help
- Severe pain or sudden vision loss should be assessed urgently
- Most patients notice marked relief after the first few days
