YAG vitreolysis for floaters is generally not painful. Numbing drops are used, and most people feel only mild pressure or awareness of the contact lens.
During the procedure
You sit at a laser machine while the doctor focuses on the floater. Bright flashes and clicking sounds are common.
- Some patients feel a soft tap or brief warmth with pulses
- Significant pain is unusual and should be mentioned immediately
- The session usually lasts between fifteen and thirty minutes
- Extra anaesthetic or short breaks can improve comfort
After the laser
Eyes may feel slightly tired or gritty, but strong pain is rare. Symptoms usually settle quickly.
- Over-the-counter pain relief is often enough if any ache appears
- Sudden pain, flashes, or a curtain over vision require urgent assessment
- Follow-up visits check both comfort and visual improvement
- Most people resume normal activities the same or next day
