When does vision stabilise after upper blepharoplasty surgery?

< 1 min read

Vision after upper blepharoplasty often feels blurry at first due to swelling, ointment, and temporary dryness. Most people find their sight stabilises within two to four weeks.

Early vision changes

Swollen upper lids can partially cover the pupil or change the way light enters the eye. This usually improves as swelling settles.

  • Ointment applied to the stitches may smear vision temporarily.
  • Dry eye symptoms, such as grittiness or watering, can blur sight.
  • Reading may feel harder in the first few days.
  • Double vision is uncommon but should be reported immediately.
  • Your glasses prescription is unlikely to change because of surgery alone.

Longer-term visual comfort

As healing progresses, many people notice a more open field of view. Any persistent visual disturbance should be checked.

  • Most patients feel their vision is stable by about a month.
  • Improved lid position can reduce eyebrow strain and headaches.
  • Report ongoing blur, shadowing, or discomfort at follow-up.
  • Lubricating drops and good lid hygiene support long-term comfort.
  • Routine eye tests can refine glasses once healing is complete.
