Vision after ptosis surgery usually stabilises over several weeks. Initially, swelling and ointment can blur sight, but many patients notice an improved field of view once healing progresses.
Early changes in sight
The lifted eyelid may feel unfamiliar and can change how light enters the eye. You might become more aware of dryness or mild irritation.
- Reading and close work may be tiring in the first few days.
- Dry eye symptoms, such as grittiness or watering, can blur vision.
- Rarely, temporary double vision occurs and should be reported.
- Your glasses prescription usually stays the same.
- Lubricating drops and ointment help protect the surface, especially at night.
Longer-term stability
As swelling settles and lid height stabilises, vision should feel more consistent. Any persistent change or discomfort should be discussed with your surgeon.
- Most patients feel their vision is stable by six to twelve weeks.
- Improved lid position often expands the upper visual field.
- Report ongoing blur, shadowing, or difficulty closing the eye fully.
- Routine eye tests can refine glasses once healing is complete.
- Long-term lubrication and lid hygiene support surface health.
