What to expect after YAG vitreolysis

< 1 min read

After YAG vitreolysis, many people notice their most troublesome floaters are less obvious. Mild discomfort, light sensitivity, and new small floaters can occur as the eye adjusts.

Immediately after the procedure

The laser uses focused pulses to break up or move floaters away from the line of sight. Numbing drops are applied beforehand to keep the eye comfortable.

  • Vision may be temporarily hazy from gel changes and bright light.
  • You might notice small new specks that usually fade with time.
  • Mild ache or soreness is common but should settle within a day or two.
  • Your eye pressure may be checked shortly after treatment.
  • Follow-up appointments assess the effect on floaters and eye health.

Short-term recovery and safety

Most people resume everyday activities quickly. Monitoring for rare complications is still important.

  • Use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry or gritty.
  • Report sudden shower of floaters, flashes, or a dark curtain urgently.
  • Glare or halos may be more noticeable for a short time.
  • Further treatment may be discussed if floaters remain bothersome.
  • Regular eye checks help ensure the retina stays healthy.
