After eyelid surgery, it is normal to have swelling, bruising, and tightness around the eyes before a fresher, more comfortable appearance emerges.
First days after surgery
Your eyelids may feel puffy, heavy, and slightly sore. Vision can be blurred by ointment and watering, but severe pain is unusual.
- Cold compresses may help reduce swelling if advised
- Bruising often spreads to the cheeks and can look dramatic
- Stitches may be visible along the lid crease or lash line
- Use prescribed drops and ointment exactly as directed
- Sleep with your head raised on extra pillows
Healing and appearance over time
Swelling and bruising gradually fade over the first weeks. The eyelids usually look smoother and feel less heavy as healing completes.
- Most people feel more comfortable after about two weeks
- Fine scars continue to soften and fade for many months
- Temporary dryness or watering is common and often improves with lubricants
- Contact the clinic urgently if you develop strong pain, spreading redness, or sudden vision loss
- Attend all follow-up visits so healing and lid position can be checked
