After endoscopic DCR surgery, most people experience reduced watering once healing progresses, although early congestion and tenderness inside the nose are common.
First days after surgery
The operation is performed through the nose, so there is usually no external scar. The eye and nose may feel blocked, sore, and slightly bloody at first.
- Mild to moderate discomfort is common and managed with pain relief
- You may notice blood-stained tears or light nasal bleeding
- Nasal packing or dressings may be present for a short time
- Use prescribed drops and nasal sprays exactly as instructed
- Avoid blowing your nose forcefully in the early days
Improvement over the following weeks
As swelling settles, tearing usually lessens and breathing through the nose becomes easier. Internal healing continues quietly.
- Nasal crusting is normal and gradually reduces
- The silicone tube, if placed, often stays for several weeks or months
- Most people feel cosmetic changes are minimal
- Contact the clinic urgently if pain worsens or vision drops suddenly
- Attend all follow-up visits so the passage can be checked and cleaned
