What to expect after blepharoplasty surgery

< 1 min read

After blepharoplasty surgery, it is normal to have bruising, swelling, and some discomfort around the eyes. These changes can look dramatic at first but usually improve steadily over the following weeks.

Immediately after surgery

Your eyelids may feel tight, heavy, or numb. Stitches, tapes, or small dressings are often used to support the new lid shape and protect the wounds.

  • Vision may be slightly blurred from ointment and swelling.
  • Bruising often peaks within two to three days before fading.
  • Cold compresses and simple pain relief usually control discomfort.
  • Prescribed drops and ointments help prevent infection and dryness.
  • You will receive instructions about head elevation, sleeping position, and activity limits.

Healing in the weeks ahead

Most people feel much more comfortable within one to two weeks. Fine-tuning of lid shape and scar appearance continues for several months.

  • Stitches are usually removed within five to ten days, depending on the technique.
  • Mild tightness, lumpiness, or itching are common signs of healing.
  • Report increasing pain, redness, or discharge promptly.
  • Protect scars from sun with sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
  • Attend all follow-up visits so your surgeon can monitor your progress.
