After blepharoplasty, it is normal to experience bruising, swelling, and temporary tightness around the eyelids, with gradual improvement over the following weeks.
Immediately After Surgery
The first days focus on comfort and protection.
- The eyelids often feel tight or heavy, and vision may be slightly blurred from ointment and swelling.
- Mild discomfort or stinging is common and usually relieved with simple pain medication and cold compresses.
- Bruising develops around the lids and upper cheeks and changes colour as it resolves.
- Patients are usually advised to sleep with the head elevated and to avoid strenuous activity.
Short-Term Recovery
Appearance and comfort improve steadily.
- Stitches are removed or dissolve within the first week, and many people feel presentable in public after about 10-14 days.
- Dryness, watering, or temporary light sensitivity may occur and are helped by lubricating drops.
- Any significant pain, sudden vision change, or increasing redness should be reported urgently.
- Follow‑up appointments check lid position, wound healing, and eye surface health.
