Most people return to work about one week after endoscopic DCR surgery, depending on comfort, congestion, and job demands.
Office and light duties
Desk-based roles are often possible once pain is controlled and vision feels steady. You may still feel congested or tired.
- Many patients resume light work after around a week
- Use lubricating drops during screen time to ease dryness
- Plan shorter days at first if possible
- Avoid very dusty or strongly air-conditioned rooms
- Check you meet driving standards before commuting by car
Physical or demanding jobs
Roles involving heavy lifting, dirt, or risk of facial injury may need a longer break. Protecting the nose and tear drainage passage is essential.
- Discuss your duties with the surgical team before the operation
- Avoid strenuous work and heavy lifting for at least one to two weeks
- Consider protective masks or eyewear in dusty environments
- Stop work and seek help if pain, bleeding, or swelling suddenly worsen
- Arrange follow-up visits around your work schedule
