Computer use after ptosis surgery is usually possible within a few days. Swelling, lid tightness, and dryness can make screens tiring, so gradual return is sensible.
Early screen work
The eyelid may not open fully at first, and ointment can blur sight. Adjustments to your workstation make early sessions easier.
- Start with short periods at the computer and increase with comfort.
- Use larger text, high contrast, and good ambient lighting.
- Keep the monitor slightly lower than eye level to reduce lid strain.
- Apply lubricating drops regularly to manage dryness.
- Avoid strong overhead lights that cause glare.
Protecting the eye surface
Because lid function may change after surgery, the eye surface needs extra care. Good habits reduce irritation and support healing.
- Follow the 20-20-20 rule to rest your eyes frequently.
- Use ointment at night if the eye does not fully close.
- Do not rub or pull on the eyelid.
- Discuss persistent strain, blur, or double vision with your surgeon.
- Ask about work adjustments if long screen hours remain challenging.
