Computer use after cataract surgery

< 1 min read

Computer work is usually possible quite soon after cataract surgery, but early screen use can highlight temporary dryness and glare. A few adjustments help make this more comfortable.

Getting Started

Short sessions are often fine within a day or two.

  • Begin with brief periods at the computer and build up as comfort allows.
  • Use preservative‑free lubricating drops regularly, especially during screen time.
  • Adjust font size, brightness, and contrast to reduce strain.
  • Follow the 20‑20‑20 rule to give your eyes regular breaks.

Optimising Comfort

Good ergonomics and lighting support recovery.

  • Position the monitor slightly below eye level and avoid reflections or harsh glare.
  • Expect vision to fluctuate while the eye settles and any new glasses prescription is finalised.
  • Discuss ongoing headaches, eye strain, or blur with your surgical team.
  • Combine screen‑time strategies with any dry‑eye treatment recommended after surgery.
