Can I shower after lower blepharoplasty surgery?

< 1 min read

Careful showering is usually allowed a day or two after lower blepharoplasty. Keeping the incision areas clean yet relatively dry helps them heal smoothly.

Showering safely early on

The lower lids and cheeks may feel tender and bruised. Gentle techniques avoid disturbing stitches or internal incisions.

  • Face away from the shower stream and avoid direct spray on your face.
  • Use a flannel to clean around, but not directly over, incision lines.
  • Do not rub or pick at scabs or stitches.
  • Pat the area dry carefully with a soft towel.
  • Follow any instructions about keeping tapes or dressings dry.

Resuming normal washing routines

As healing progresses, washing becomes easier. Your surgeon will advise when you can wash your face more normally.

  • Gentle cleansing with mild soap is usually permitted after about a week.
  • Avoid very hot, steamy showers that may increase swelling.
  • Reapply ointments or drops after washing as directed.
  • Seek review if you notice redness, discharge, or wound separation.
  • Good hygiene supports neat scars and comfortable lids.
