Can I shower after laser eye surgery

< 1 min read

You can usually shower soon after laser eye surgery, but you must keep water, soap, and shampoo out of your eyes at first. This helps prevent irritation and infection while the surface heals.

First few days in the bathroom

The flap or corneal surface is delicate straight after surgery. Gentle habits stop splashes and rubbing that might disturb healing.

  • Face away from the spray and keep your eyes closed while showering
  • Avoid getting shampoo or shower gel near your eyelids
  • Do not rub your eyes if water gets in simply let it drain away
  • Skip steamy saunas and hot tubs until your surgeon confirms they are safe

Returning to normal washing

Restrictions usually relax after the first check-up when healing looks stable. Take things slowly and continue to protect your eyes.

  • Pat around your eyes gently with a clean towel rather than rubbing
  • Ask about timing for swimming or underwater activities
  • Use lubricant drops if bathrooms or hot showers make your eyes feel dry
  • Report any redness, discharge, or blurred vision for review
