You can usually shower soon after LASEK, but it is important to keep water, soap, and shampoo out of your eyes while the surface heals. This helps avoid irritation and infection.
First Week
Extra care is needed during early healing.
- Shower with your eyes closed and avoid directing the spray at your face.
- Do not rub your eyes if products or water splash on them; instead, let them rinse away gently and use lubricating drops afterwards.
- Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas, which carry higher infection risks.
- Pat around the eyes dry with a clean towel rather than rubbing.
Later On
Restrictions ease as the epithelium strengthens.
- After the first week or as advised, you can be less cautious in the shower, while still avoiding forceful rubbing.
- Confirm timing for swimming and underwater activities with your surgeon.
- Continue any drop regimen exactly as instructed.
- Report persistent irritation, redness, or blurred vision for review.
