You can usually shower soon after gold weight eyelid surgery, but you must protect the eyelid and incision from direct water, soap, and rubbing.
Early showering precautions
The upper lid is delicate and swollen, and the weight needs time to settle. Gentle washing keeps you clean while reducing infection risk.
- Shower with your back to the water whenever possible
- Keep your eyes closed and avoid direct spray on the operated eyelid
- Do not rub or scratch the lid even if it feels itchy
- Pat the skin around the eye dry with a clean towel
- Avoid eye make-up until your clinician confirms it is safe
Returning to normal washing
As swelling eases, you can gradually relax these precautions. Your team will advise on timing and scar care.
- Normal gentle showering is often possible after about one week
- Continue to avoid vigorous rubbing of the eyelids
- Use mild skincare and shampoo on healed areas
- Delay swimming pools and hot tubs until fully cleared
- Contact the clinic if redness, discharge, or pain increase after showering
